Colonel Martin Beltran, alias El Aguila, who was captured at his home in Zapopan, Jalisco, authorities said the detainee, identified as responsible for the traffic of drugs purchased in Central and South America to the United States, taking as the Pacific route.

Edgar Villegas Luis Melendez, a brigadier general and deputy chief operating staff of the Secretariat of National Defense, announced that when Villarreal Ignacio Coronel, better known as Nacho Coronel, died in July 2010, Colonel Martin Beltran, nephew assumed leadership in organizing the Sinaloa Cartel.

Joaquin Guzman Loera himself endorsed the nephew of Colonel Nacho take his place, authorities stated. The Eagle had operations in Sinaloa, Jalisco and Colima.
